Too much homework

On vacation, and yet I seem to have less time and motivation to write now than during work. Last week I spent four days and three nights at Islandwood before returning to find that, as part of a public spending massacre in the form of a supplemental budget, funding for my program — which comes entirely from the state of Washington — has been cut for the remainder of the budget cycle. It remains to be seen how, exactly, that will affect us. Now I am working on an initial press release for the Cities of Service Initiative and I will also begin an online course through the Maine-based(!) Institute for Humane Education. Long story short, this may be the last post before the New Year. In the meantime, some reading material:

Be Wary of Corporate Inroads Into Education (Education Week, 12/17/10)

Position Paper on NCLB and the School to Prison Pipeline (Fair Test, 12/13/10)

A sobering look at Florida school reform (The Answer Sheet, 12/21/10)

Enjoy!
